Acupuncture is an ancient Eastern practice that has healed many for thousands of years. Acupuncture improves circulation, allowing the oxygen, blood and lymph to better support the body’s healing process by applying finely gauged, sterilized, one-time use needles. It also helps system repair of damaged nerves, muscles and ligaments, while restoring the natural flow of energy, balance, and joy.
Usually, acupuncture is more effective to receive treatment on a regular basis, depending on the person. The healing process can be accelarated by combining acupuncture with other therapies such as manipulation, herbal medicine, etc.
Chronic illnesses may require treatments for several weeks or longer. Acute problems generally have a quicker response. As in any form of medical care, the patient’s attitude, diet, determination and lifestyle will affect the outcome and course of the treatment.Acupuncture is based on the theory of Yin-Yang and the five elements. Health is seen as a balance between two opposing forces called yin and yang within the body. An imbalance of these is considered to result in ill-health. This imbalance also causes disruption in the flow of Qi or vital energy along pathways in the body know as meridians. This is done commonly by the insertion of fine needles into these points which are then manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation. They can also be stimulated by moxibustion, pressure and heat. This restores the balance between yin and yang, corrects the flow of Qi along the meridians and restores health to the body and mind.
Acupuncture is a type of oriental therapy that treats patients by insertion and manipulation of solid, generally thin needles in the body. Acupuncture aims to correct imbalances in the flow of energy by stimulation of anatomical locations on or under the skin called acupuncture points, known as meridians. Hugh Oriental Clinic’s acupuncture therapy is provided by licensed professional therapist who is also a college professor in the same field.

Traditional acupuncture points accompanied by movement. In our unique treatment, patients are encouraged to move, either alone or with support, for a period of 20 to 30 minutes, while they are receiving traditional acupuncture. This treatment is greatly effective for patients with muscle and joint problems. Damaged spine, ligaments, muscles or cartilage surrounding the joints causes inflammation and severe pain, making it difficult for patients to move. If these conditions are neglected, the spine, joint muscles and ligaments become hardened, blood does not circulate properly, and aggravates the pain.

Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy (281-341 A.D.) in which a jar (bamboo or glass) is applied to the skin surface to cause local congestion through the negative pressure created by introducing heat in the form of an ignited material.
This is believed to stimulate blood flow and break up obstructions so that energy (in Chinese known as “qi”) can flow through and toxins can be drawn out of the body. The cupping method has the function of warming and promoting the free flow of Qi and blood in the meridians, dispel cold dampness, diminish swellings, and pains. Cupping is extremely effective for the treatment of colds, flu, along with varieties of muscle strain injuries, gastro-intestinal disorders, and lung diseases (especially chronic cough and asthma). Cupping over acupuncture needle is also performed for the treatment of arthralgia (joint pain). Cupping is known to increase white blood cell count which in turn will speed up healing time.
Generally, cupping is left in place for approximately 15-20 minutes. The skin becomes red due to the congestion of blood flow which will leave large areas of bruising depending on the severity of the condition. Large red marks or bruising will dissipate after several days.

Call us and make an appointment for a session of cupping to relieve pain, tension and tightness or if you desire is to relax.
